"An Army Travels on it's Stomach" Napolean Bonaparte |
In the case of the Artiste, his stomach traveled on that much maligned and little respected implement of war, the Canned Ration, alias, "C" ration, "C"-Rat, "Rat's"or just plain "C's". Everyone had his favorite. Rare delicacies all. The names tell of the romance, Green Eggs and Ham, Spam in a Can, Ham and MF's. Fruit cocktail was heaven in the heat. Fruitcake was a dangerous weapon. Hot sauce was a necessity. All the conveniences of home in a cardboard box. Fully balanced and nutritional gastro-intestinal distress in a can. Four after dinner smokes [only for the brave in combat, smoking is Hazardous to your Health] and a packet of 'hot joe'. "TP": one each, single sheet, single ply. Life is good! |
