Welcome back....

Well, as most of you know....stuff happens. Our big adventure has been delayed. Daphne and I were to be off early this morning to see old college friends, Gen. Tom Hill and wife Toni in the hill country. I've known Tom and Toni since 1967, lived with them for awhile at Ft. Benning Ga. in a prior life; they are like brother and sister to me. Tom and Toni also have a profoundly challenged, both physically and mentally, daughter, Meagen. Meggie is a young woman now and over the years many health care professionals have advised the Hills to put Meagen in a group home. They won't hear of it. Toni is a saint.

Last night Toni called and said that Meagen is in the hospital once again with pneumonia like symptoms and we had better plan on getting together in March. I understand completely...First Things First.

I was looking forward to the trip, so was Daphne, her bag was packed. Tom and I were going to recreate a pilgrimage he and I took in 1980, stopping at every small barbeque joint in the hill country we could find. After the last six months I was looking forward to a change in venue and talking to some different folks. And besides being a bubba, Tom is also one interesting guy. Tom recently retired as a Four Star General in the Army and was the SOUTHCOM Commander, which meant he was in command of all U.S. military forces in Central and South America, including the Islamic Boys Camp at Guantamamo. I was looking forward to getting the inside scope of what's happening. But, stuff happens. Looks like a football day for the Daph and Me. That's OK too.
