Look....it's Ron Ely!

Sometimes we can see things a multitude of times but not see the entire thing at all. The other night I was watching the last hour or so of the movie South Pacific on The Turner Classic Movie channel. One of my all time favorites. Great music, great photography, interesting cast and nostalgic as it reminds me of my time in the South Pacific. So as I watched the full credits unfold, imagine my surprise at seeing the part of the navigator on the PBY "The Bouncing Belch" played by none other than Ronald Ely. Who later became Ron Ely of teevee Tarzan fame.

Interesting because about the time he became Tarzan famous....he had been living in Midland. I carried his groceries out for him several times when I was working a summer job as a stocker at the old Furr's Supermarket here. Seeing as how we were old chums, I wonder why I've never recoginized him in South Pacific before......I've seen it 20 times.
