Time moves on....
You saw, of course, that TeeVee legend Jack Paar has died. Most Bloggers, being of a younger age grouping probably weren't around when Jack was big news on TeeVee. I hope, however, that those who weren't took a minute to listen to the news reports and learn the immense contributions that he made to the way TeeVee is now for better or worse. I was a young sprout when he was on and wasn't allowed to stay up that late, nor watch "adult content" shows of that type. Which was tame compared to the general content on the tube today. It was in the halcyon days of black and white, when, if you got three TeeVee channels you were lucky or lived in a major market area.
The other major passing I noticed was that of Elroy "Crazy Legs" Hirsch, an NFL hall of famer from the early and mid 50's. I don't remember so much about Crazy Legs as, and this is hard to believe for anyone under 45, but we didn't get NFL games on TeeVee. I always did love his monicker though...he just seemed like the epitome of an NFL player. He and Bronco Nugurski. With names like those, you just had to be good. Also, on a personal note, my Sunday school teacher Hal Dean, had played with Crazy Legs in the early 50's when Hal was an offensive tackle for the Los Angeles Rams. Hal also played for Ohio State when they won their first National Championship where he was coached by the legendary Paul Brown. I saw Hal this last year, crooked broken nose and all, and he still insprired some degree of awe in me, like if I couldn't recite my daily Bible verse, he'd break me down like an old shotgun.
