Famous Visitor..........
I am blessed to be visited by well known veteran Dick Ackerman and his wife Kay. Dick is mentioned prominently in the best seller, We Were Soldiers Once, and Young and witnessed some of the most vicious fighting of the Vietnam War. Dick was walking point for the column that was the 2/7th Cavalry as they made they way through the jungle to Landing Zone Albany where they were ambushed by overwhelming North Vietnamese forces which resulted in close hand to hand combat and the death of 155 American troops and an uncounted, but certainly higher number of North Vietnamese forces.
I admire Dick for his courage and honesty in talking about overcoming the demons that have haunted him since this life changing experience and for the gentle person he is today. He is a pleasure to be around, and certainly has a grateful perspective on life today.
