Bulletin from Baghdad
As you may have noticed on the International newswires, in a surprising turn of events, Saddam Hussein has been re-elected as dictator, father, and leader of the children of Iraq!! This is a stunning development. Although there were no other entries in the race for Iraqi Dictator, the word on the street in Baghdad, was that the write in vote would be significant and that two candidates, Bishop Desmond Tutu and former President and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Jimmy Carter, had a fair chance of success to oust the long serving Hussein.
What is truly surprising is that election officials announced that the turnout was nearly 100% of those eligible to vote [those still with at least one hand], and that the vote was 100% in favor of Saddam remaining as dictator for another 7 year term. This has to give pause to the coalition building against Saddam. Perhaps he truly is the loved benevolent leader he claims to be. And the fact that his term as dictator is only for 7 years gives some credence to the idea of a "democratic dictatorship". Something common in the Arab world. Also a sign that Iraq is moving forward in the world of modern nations is the online voting form seen below. It was reported that all 9 people with Internet access used this means to vote "Yes" for Saddam.
